Using Google Slides to Create Custom Instagram Posts! Free and Easy!

When I create a branding package for clients it includes colour codes, fonts and graphics with transparent backgrounds that they can use to create their own custom content for instagram, facebook, email newsletters, posters, presentations and so on. This way, the information they are presenting to their customers is always on brand.

Here is a simple guide to create your own templates and posts in google slides for instagram:

  1. Save logos, graphics and images you plan to use in one folder

  2. Open google slides - located in the menu on the top right corner of your google page

3. Select File > Page Setup and adjust your slide size to 1080 x 1350 pixels (or 1080 x 1080 if you prefer square posts)

4. Now create your content. Clear any text boxes on your slide to start fresh. Start by changing your background colour by selecting Background, then click the colour circle. You can choose an existing colour, or select custom, and input your hex numbers/colour codes provided in your branding package.

5. Now you can add images, graphics and logos from your saved file. Select Insert> Image > Upload from computer.

You can resize graphics by clicking and dragging from the corner dots and rotate by clicking the dot at the end of the line from the top of the shape. Copy and paste the graphics and move around to create a background that suits your brand.

6. Now you can add text and shapes to create your content. I always use google fonts in my branding so they can be used across multiple free programs like Slides! Make sure you use your assigned branding fonts:) Simply click the text box icon to add text and adjust font, colour and size in the font menu. You can also use coloured shapes for simple text blocks. Graphics and text order can also be changed if you right click on the graphic, then select “order” to move to the front or back.

6. Now you are ready to download the image to post! Select File > Download > PNG Image (these are best for digital purposes). It will show up in your downloads folder (or top right download section of your browser). Open it up, save it to your computer and post! You can always come back and use your template again or try making new ones:) Remember to keep it simple. The fonts, colours and graphics that have been carefully selected for your brand, make a great combo and can be used sparingly to make everything look like it belongs! Happy free posting!
